Introduction to Credit Unions
credit union is a financial services cooperative that is owned and controlled by its customers, or “members”.  Credit unions serve groups that share something in common, such as a place of employment or a particular geographical location.  They exist to provide a safe, convenient place for members to save money and to get loans at reasonable rates.  While credit unions provide many of the same services as a bank or a savings and loan, they are operated as not-for-profit organizations.  Credit unions are closely regulated, and member deposits are insured up to $100,000 by the federal government.  Find a credit union in your area.
